1. What is the social problem you wish to address? What are the effects of its existence?
The social issue I intend on addressing is how the loss of net neutrality affects the freedoms of the general public. In losing net neutrality several general rights of internet users are lost to ISP's. Your service providers will now be able to affect the rate at which you receive information and have the ability to block said information as well. 2. What are the causes of the effects of the social problem? What media perpetuates the issue or stereotype or misconception Although the loss of net neutrality negatively affects mass majority of the general public, it does benefit large corporations such as Cable and Verizon. Not having these restrictions allows them to up prices in order to be placed on a "fast lane". FCC chairman Ajit Pai is an individual who pushed for the end of net neutrality. He believes that net neutrality's end will benefit the market. These large companies argue that net neutrality stunts growth and creativity. 3. What have people done to combat the social problem and mitigate the effects? What can you do? Can you join a fight or cause? Can you create one using your means and imagination? In order to bring the regulations of net neutrality back the general public must vote for proper elected officials who share their beliefs. Aside from voting joining the conversation is a positive way of allowing your voice to be heard and educating others in the process.
